20 projects by GOBELINS alumni selected for Annecy Festival 2025!
The 2025 edition of the Annecy Festival, organized from June 8 to 14, will be giving a special place of honor to GOBELINS alumni! Feature films, series, shorts, work-in-progress, exhibitions, book signings... discover all the projects presented this year.

Feature films in competition

"Amélie et la Métaphysique des tubes" by Maïlys Vallade and Liane-Cho Han
Directed by Maïlys Vallade (class of 2009) and Liane-Cho Han (class of 2007), both graduates of the Master in Character Animation and Animated Filmmaking, the film was presented at Cannes in a special screening.
Maïlys and Liane-Chose met during their studies at GOBELINS, before meeting up again a few years later on the making of Rémi Chayé's "Tout en haut du monde" and "Calamity", as storyboard artist and animation director respectively. Adapted from Amélie Nothomb's cult novel, "Métaphysique des tubes" is their first feature film as co-writers and directors.
Amélie, a little Belgian girl born in Japan, grows up in a world of discovery and wonder, thanks to her friend Nishio-san. But on her third birthday, something happens that turns her world upside down. At that age, anything can happen: joy or tragedy.
The film will be released on June 25, 2025.

"Arco" by Ugo Bienvenu
The first feature-length animated film by Ugo Bienvenu (class of 2010), a director of music videos and short films and the author of award-winning comic strips, "Arco" is a colorful, optimistic science-fiction film for adults and children alike.
Produced by Remembers (co-founded by Ugo Bienvenu and Félix de Givry) and Mountain A, the American company founded by Natalie Portman and Sophie Mas, the film was presented in a special screening at Cannes.
In the year 2075, a 10-year-old girl named Iris sees a mysterious boy dressed in a bow-tie suit fall from the sky. It's Arco. He comes from a distant, idyllic future where time travel is possible. Iris takes him in and does everything she can to help him get home.

"Quai Sisowath" by Stéphanie Lansaque and François Leroy
Directed by Stéphanie Lansaqueand François Leroy (Dessinateur d'Animation, class of 2002), the film has already been selected for a special screening at the Festival National du Film d'Animation.
It will be shown in the "Courts métrages L'officielle 3" program.
Phnom Penh. Nakry and Sothear meet on the Sisowath quay for their first date. As night falls, the romance turns into a nightmare when the young girl is transformed into a strange creature.
Television films in competition

"Astérix & Obélix, le Combat des chefs" Episode 102 byAlain Chabat and Fabrice Joubert
Directed by Alain Chabat and Fabrice Joubert (Animation Designer, class of 1997), the series is an adaptation of the 1966 cult comic strip. Produced by studio TAT Productions, it marks Alain Chabat's return to the irreducible Gauls.
Kristof Serrand, the series' animation supervisor , and some fifteen GOBELINS alumni also worked on the series.
In Gallic tradition, if a Gallic leader loses in battle to another, he and his people become the subjects of the victor.The Romans kidnap Getafix, and a failed attempt to rescue him causes him to lose his memory.

"Common Side Effects" - Episode 9, directed by Vincent Tsui
Broadcast on Adult Swim and produced by Green Picture Joe Bennett 's new series co-written with and Steve Hely on the world of the pharmaceutical industry and alternative medicine mixestraditional drawing and hallucinatory sequences, and offers an acerbic critique of the American healthcare system .
Vincent Tsui (class of 2015), directed some of the episodes, including episode 9, presented in competition.Art director, storyboarder, concept artist and illustrator, he has already worked with Joe Bennett on "Scavengers Reign" and won the jury prize for a TV series at Annecy.
He is currently working on the development of a short film in collaboration with my wife, Mavra Peponi, for which he received the Best Pitch Award at the Animasyros animation festival in 2022.
We follow Marshall and Frances, former high school classmates, as they unravel a conspiracy between Big Pharma and the government to hide the secret of a rare fungus, a potential universal cure for all diseases.

"Gros Lézard" by Amaël Isnard and Jeanne Meister
Produced by Je Suis Bien Content, the series was broadcast by France 5 in the Okoo program.
Jeanne Meister graduated in 1997 as a director and storyboard supervisor, and has also worked on the series "Les Croquemoutard", "NAWAK" and "Mily Miss Questions".
After an uncontrolled landing, 7-year-old astronaut Cosima and her scientist dad find themselves on a planet full of strange plants and creatures.Cosima's first discovery is "Big Lizard", a zany but adorable prehistoric amphibian.

"Il est une fois" by Patrick Volve and Camille de Cussac
A fiction director, Patrick Volve (class of 1996) mixes different techniques such as pixilation and stop-motion with traditional 2d animation techniques. His credits include the "Petit Malabar" series broadcast on France 5.
"Il est une fois" is an adaptation of the colorful universe of illustrator Camille de Cussac , including the albums "Le Petit Chaperon Belge" and "Barbe Blue, le maudit québécois" published by Marcel et Joachim.
Co-produced by Miyu Productions and Have A Nice Day films, the series will soon be available on Canal Plus Kids.
In Il est une fois, we meet Little Belgian Riding Hood, Bluebeard, a wolf on a motorcycle, a duck with golden eggs, three little pigs and many other characters we feel we already know, but who turn out to be quite different.Since fairy tales cross centuries and borders, here they are the occasion for a modern, colorful journey that visits Marseille,passes through Montreal and ends in Brazzaville.Fasten your seatbelts and get ready for takeoff!

"La Rivière à l'envers" by Paul Leluc
Directed by Paul Leluc (animation designer, class of 2002), the series is adapted from the novels by Jean-Claude Mourlevat. The series was presented as a Work In Progress at Annecy last year, and was also selected for the Festival National du Film d'Animation last April.
Made at Studio Oolala, it was directed by Marion Claret (Licence Gestion de la Production Audiovisuelle, class of 2016).
The story of Tomek and Hannah's meeting on the way to the Qjar River. Hannah hopes to collect a magic drop to save her bird; Tomek is searching for a lost memory. Their quests intersect, follow one another and complement one another.

Commissioned films in competition

Clip "Les Lettres de Krakovie" by Arnold Turboust, directed by Antoine Dahan, Clement Delaby and Rayan Takhedmit
All three graduates of the Bachelor in Character Animation and Animated Filmmaking in 2023, Antoine Dahan, Clément Delaby, and Rayan Takhedmit, created the collective Clavel after their film "Clavel Gris", made for the credits of the 2023 edition of the Annecy Festival.
The clip was produced by studio Les Monstres, with whom the trio are currently developing "Dans la maison", a short film project.
A young man and three ladies are locked away by winter in a large country house. A new arrival in the house gradually changes the boy's view of his own desire and that of others.

"Blood Sweat & Tears and Welcome to Noxus
Studio Fortiche, an essential reference since the success of the Arcaneseries , presents two new cinematics for League of Legends: "Blood, Sweat & Tears" and "Welcome to Noxus".
The first, directed by Pascal Charrue (class of 2000), Barthélémy Maunoury (class of 2004), Arnaud Delors and Etienne Mattera (class of 2007), features awounded and near-deathAmbessa , matrone noxienne revealed in Arcane.
The second, by Stéphane Annette, Arnaud Delord, Barthélémy Maunoury and Pascal Charrue , explores the internal tensions of the Noxian empire: Mel returns to the lands of his ancestors, Darius goes to war in Freljord and Katarina infiltrates the Black Roses, under the implacable gaze of Leblanc.

"Les Bad Guys 2" by Pierre Perifel and Juan Pablo Sans
The DreamWorks Animation franchise returns with an explosive new opus, taking its bad guys on an impossible mission into space!
Still co-directed by Pierre Perifel (class of 2005), the film also features a number of alumni: Thomas Digard, Story Visualization Specialist (class of 2001), Floriane Marchix, art direction (class of 2009), Maxime Delalande, storyboard artist (class of 2014), Julien Bocabeille, supervising animator (class of 2007) and Julien Le Rolland, character designer (class of 2006).
Pierre Perifel joined Dreamworks in 2008. He has spent most of his career at the studio, working alongside Kristof Serrand. He started out as acharacter animator, notably on "Kung Fu Panda" and "Shrek 4", before becoming animation supervisor, animation director, storyboarder and finally director. He signed his first short film in 2018, "Bilby", which closed the Annecy Festival the same year and was pre-selected for the Oscars in 2019. Released in 2022, the first part of "Bad Guys" won an Annie Award for character design.
The Bad Guys, in search of redemption, redouble their efforts to stay on the straight and narrow.But their good resolutions are shattered when they find themselves embroiled in a large-scale robbery across the globe, led by a new team of criminals as formidable as they are unpredictable: the Bad Girls.
The film will be released on July 30, 2025.

"Arcane" - The Event Exhibition
This year, Fortiche productions and Riot Games are transforming the festival into a creative playground with an immersive, original and ephemeral exhibition dedicated to "Arcane", their cult series acclaimed by audiences and critics alike.
The experience, conceived as a journey to the heart of this animated masterpiece, will be an opportunity to go behind the scenes of the series, with exclusive artworks and set elements, as well as the creative process and alternative visual paths for season 2.
Admission to the exhibition is free, subject to availability.
SIGNINGS AND MEETINGS

Dedication by Florent Maudoux
Florent Maudoux qualified as an animator in 2002, and began his career at Walt Disney Animation Studios, then at Eden Games , where he worked on "Titeuf: Mega Compet'" and "Kya: Dark Lineage" asa 3D animator.
With a passion for comics, he created the "Freaks' Squeele"series published by éditions Ankama in 2008 and "A short story, la vraie histoire du Dahlia noir" published by éditions Rue de Sèvres.
He will be signing the latest volume in his "Clovd" series, published last March.
The Clovd is an impenetrable mist that has covered the World. It brought with it nightmarish monsters and sent humanity back to a chaotic Middle Ages. Immortal, Funeral has already lived through several apocalypses and knows that there is always a solution.

Studio Focus : "Dragon Striker
Claire Sun (class of 2021) will be at the meeting to talk about the genesis of the "Dragon Striker" series, on which she worked as Concept Artist.
Broadcast on Disney +, the series was produced by studio La Chouette compagnie.
Key, a twelve-year-old farm boy, discovers he could be the legendary "Dragon Striker" and joins a team of underdogs to take on the school champions, while fighting to prevent an ancient evil from resurfacing.

"Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Deathwatch" by Félicien Colmet Daâge and Guillaume Dousse
Adapted from the Splinter Cell video game , the series, co-produced by Ubisoft and Netflix, was produced primarily at Sun Creature & FostStudios .
Directed by Guillaume Dousse ( class of 2013) and Félicien Colmet Daâge, the series features Sam Fisher, a covert operations agent working for a division of the US government known as "The Third Echelon".
Gaëlle Thierry (class of 2009), animation supervisor, will also be present at the event.

Feature film pitches

"Le Dernier des cailloux" by Caroline Cherrier
A 2015 graduate of the Master in Character Animation and Animated Filmmaking program, Caroline Cherrier has signed several short films for television ("Fusée Signal", "Prince des Ténèbres"), and also directed "Hoarcio" produced by Ikki Films.
A storyboard artist and concept artist (HBO, Arte...), she also works with comic strip and video collectives. Her universe blends poetry, wry humor and vibrant colors. "Le Dernier des cailloux" is her first feature film. She won the Annecy Festival Residency in 2023 for this project.
Firmin Cailloux, 10, has been waiting 3 years for his parents to return from the sea. He lives with his aunt in a cockle-fishing village on the Atlantic coast, but finds it hard to adapt to this humble life. One foggy day, he spots a huge creature drawn to the lighthouse by the sound of the foghorn. He enters into a silent dialogue with it, torn between his desire to protect it and save it from human greed.

"Pangea" by Simon Rouby
Graduating from GOBELINS in 2007, Simon Rouby was nominated for a César and a European Film Award for "Adama", his first feature film released in 2015 .
He developed "Pangea" in 2017 while a resident at the Villa Medici in Rome. This protean, evolving work at the crossroads of cinema, visual arts and science imagines a world without borders, between geological fiction and ecological reflection.
Chesa is a young girl who can predict earthquakes. Following an earthquake in her village, she sets off to find her grandmother at altitude. On the way, she meets Denpa, a young Khampa, a landless people who live on coal. The two of them travel through a world where tremors multiply. When Chesa arrives at her grandmother's house, she discovers that the earthquakes are in fact the work of the Khampas, who, led by their chief, dig up the earth and destroy it.

Maryam & Varto by Luciano Lepinay and Gorune Aprikian
Director, Art Director, Animation Director, Set Designer, Luciano LEPINAY graduated from GOBELINS in 1998. His credits include "Angelo in the Mysterious Forest", "Red Jungle", "My Father's Secrets", "Josep" and "April and the Knife World".
"Maryam & Varto", co-directed with Gorune APRIKIAN, is his first feature film. Selected for the Cartoon Movie pitch in 2021, the film mixes 2D and 3D.
In 1915, in Anatolia, Maryam and her brother Varto, two Armenian children, are caught up in the turmoil of war. Hassan, a young Turkish man, is given the difficult task of rescuing them. The three of them will cross a torn country and discover each other beyond their differences. This journey has unexpected consequences in our own time, when a young woman and her teenage son travel from Istanbul to Paris to meet a grumpy old Armenian.

"Polar Star" by Eléa Gobbé-Mévellec
A 2006 graduate of the Master in Character Animation and Animated Filmmaking program, Eléa Gobbé-Mévellec, co-directed "LesHirondelles de Kaboul" in 2019, and has also worked as an animator on numerous feature films, including "Le Jour des corneilles" , "Avril et le monde truqué", "Le Sommet des Dieux", "Mars Express"...
After a spectacular escape, Polaris, a 17-year-old refugee from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, finds herself in a South Korean adaptation center, where she shares her life story with other refugees. She recalls her childhood and adolescence. As she confronts the reality of hypermodern Seoul, troubling events from her past come back to haunt her. Is she really who she says she is?

"Kateryna" by Mary Yanko
Mary Yanko, who graduated in 2022, is a director whose credits include Scalaé, Loqidor and Miyu Productions.
This animated documentary, inspired by real events, explores the representation of the Russo-Ukrainian war on social networks, through the eyes of a camgirl turned soldier.
