Located on Mount Pincio, the Académie de France à Rome - Villa Médicis welcomes artists, authors and researchers for a period of several weeks to a year, to enable them to pursue an artistic or research project.

The Villa Medici has just launched its competition for the recruitment of its annual boarders. It is also still possible to apply (until Monday July 15) for a shorter period (from 2 weeks to 2 months) for the Résidence Médicis.

The Résidence Médicis

Organized throughout the year by the Académie de France in Rome, the " Résidences Médicis " program offers artists, authors and researchers from all disciplines the opportunity to take up residency in order to carry out a specific research or creative project.

These short-term residencies (from 2 weeks to 2 months) will take place from January to June 2025.

Applications may be submitted for all creative disciplines, arts and crafts, art history and theory, and art and monument restoration.

They are open to French-speaking candidates over the age of 18 . You can apply alone or in a group.

A residence grant of €1,500 gross per month is paid to each resident (on a pro rata basis). Residents also benefit from a single room for the duration of their stay.

Applications are open until Monday, July 15.

The Villa Médicis residents' competition

Organized every year, the international competition of the Académie de France à Rome - Villa Médicis aims to select the residents of the residency for creation, experimentation and research.

Held over a period of one year (from September to the end of August), the competition is open to established French-speaking artists, authors and researchers, regardless of nationality, who have not previously been boarders. Some knowledge of Italian language and culture is recommended.

Applications are accepted from all disciplines of literary and artistic creation, arts and crafts, art history and theory, and restoration of works of art and monuments.

Group projects are also accepted, in which case each person selected will receive a residency grant.

Residents have artist-in-residence status, whatever their professional background or personal situation.

Successful applicants will receive a residency grant of €42,000 (equivalent to €3,500 per month) and accommodation in a single room.

Applications are open from Monday July 8 to Wednesday October 16, 2024.
