Graduating from the Bachelor Photographe et Vidéaste program in 2023, Yama Ndiaye won the PICTO Grand Prix for Fashion Photography on June 5 .

Awarded the prize for her " Nataal " series, Yama Ndiaye sublimates bodies and everyday objects through her highly plastic work.

In Wolof, " nataal " means both " Image " and " Origin ". With this documentary project, she explores the role of photography in the construction of black identities in Africa.

"This isa very intimate, long-term project. Photography is a medium that allows me to explore my dual cultural heritage and find a language to communicate.I don't speak Wolof fluently, so it's a way of connecting with my family."

"Yama Ndiaye combines the expression of a personal story and poetry with a very fashionable dimension that can be seen in the choice of framing, the setting of light and texture. In this series, she evokes her childhood memories, but her aesthetic also conjures up the future of a great fashion photographer".

Alexandre Mattiussi, president of the jury for the 26th edition of the Prix PICTO de la Photographie de Mode

A selection of Yama Ndiaye'sphotos , along with those of the other prizewinners (Tamibé Bourdanné for the19M de la Photographie des Métiers d'Art, Gabriel Gómez for the Filippo Roversi endowment and Silvana Trevale for the LGA Management / JANVIER prize), will be included in the collection of the Palais Galliera, Musée de la Mode de Paris .
