The 52nd edition of the Annie Awards, a not-to-be-missed event in the world of animation, will take place on Saturday February 8, 2025 in Los Angeles.

 

Created in 1972 and organized by the California chapter of theInternational Animated Film Association, the Annie Awards ceremony honors the best in world animation.

 

This year, 3 films directed by alumni are nominated in the best film and best student film categories, and 5 alumni are nominated in technical categories.

Simon Otto's first feature film (animator promo 1997), "That Christmas" has been nominated forBest Picture. Scripted by Richard Curtis ("Four Weddings and a Funeral", "Love Actually", "Yesterday"...), the film is based on the children's book series of the same name.

 

Simon Otto is also nominated in the "Best Film Direction"category.Chief animator, director and storyboard artist, Simon Otto's credits include the Dragons trilogy and the "Love, Death & Robots" series.

In the cozy coastal town of Wellington-on-Sea, the holiday spirit takes an unexpected turn when the worst snowstorm in history disrupts the carefully laid plans of its residents, including Santa.

Released in November 2023 and selected at Cannes, the Césars and numerous festivals (Annecy, Göteborg Film Festival, Rotterdam International Film Festival, Hong Kong French Film Festival...), the film by Jérémie Périn (Animation Designer, class of 2000) has been nominated in the"Best Independent Animated Film" category.

 

Halfway between SF and film noir, this cyberpunk thriller tells the story of Aline Ruby, a stubborn private detective, and Carlos Rivera, an android replica of her partner who died 5 years earlier. The duo embark on a race against time across Mars to find Jun Chow, a cybernetics student on the run, before the mercenary assassins on her trail shoot her down.

After "Coffin"and "La Bestia" in 2021, "Au revoir Jérôme"and "The Soloist"in 2023 and "La Quête de l'humain" in 2024, "El Ombligo de la Luna", is the 6th graduation film to be selected for the prestigious Best Student Film Award!

 

Directed bySara Antonio,Julia Grupińska,Bokang Koatja,Ezequiel Garibay CiresandTian Westraad (Master in Character Animation and Animated Filmmaking, Class of 2023), the film was selected for the Student Academy Awards, and also won theBest Student Short Film Awardat the Animayo festival.

 

Chava, a Mexican mechanic, is about to have his precious car seized when he receives an unexpected visit from Nacho, his long-abandoned son.

The series created by Christian Linke and Alex Yee and directed by Pascal Charrue (Video Game Animator, class of 2000), Arnaud Delord and Jérôme Combe is nominated for two episodes of season 2, "The Dirt Under Your Nails" and "Killing is a Cycle", on which several alumni worked.
 

Pascal Charrue and Bart Maunoury (Animateur Infographiste, class of 2004) are nominated in the "Best TV/Media Production" category alongside Arnaud Delord for the episode: "The Dirt Under Your Nails", Julien Georgel (Animateur Infographiste 3D CQ, class of 2002) is nominated in the "Best TV/Media Production Design" category alongside Arnaud-Loris Baudry, Faustine Dumontier and Charlotte O'Neil.

 

And finally, Joséphine Meis (Animation Film Designer and Director, class of 2019) is nominated in the "Best TV/Media Storyboard" category for the episode "Killing is a Cycle".

 

Based on the League of Legends video game universe, the two seasons of Arcane were produced by Riot Games in collaboration with Fortiche Production. Acclaimed by audiences and critics alike, the series has already won nine Annie Awards and four Primetime Emmy Awards in 2022.

 

Champions of their rival twin cities, two sisters battle in a war raging with magical technologies and diametrically opposed perspectives.

Habib Louati (Animator, class of 1999) is nominated in the "Best film storyboard" category for his work on the fourth installment of "Moi moche et méchant".

 

In all, some twenty alumni worked on the film, co-directed by Patrick Delage (animation designer in 1988) and Chris Renaud.

 

Gru, Lucy and the girls, Margo, Edith and Agnès, welcome the youngest member of the family, Gru Junior, who seems to have only one passion: to drive his father crazy.
