A graduate of the ECNI Master's program, Creative Lead option in 2024, Robin Moncho is a freelance digital designer.

This year, he joined the ARTE Incubation program. Dedicated to the exploration of new audiovisual narratives and formats, the program brings together 10 to 12 creatives of varying backgrounds, ages and disciplines for a 5-week residency.

Robin talks to us about this experience and his career path.

You graduated from the Master Expert in Interactive Digital Creation in 2024. What has been your career path since graduating?

After graduating, I went freelance, working on a number of art direction, graphic design and motion graphics projects in the cultural sector, notably for the Octobre Numérique - Faire Monde festival in Arles.

Alongside my design missions, I explored the possibilities of the Unreal Engineand collaborated with established artists in the digital art world. I also formalized my project ideas into dossiers in response to calls for artistic residencies.

Can you tell us more about your experience at the Arte incubator?

I discovered the call for applications thanks to an article on the GOBELINS Alumni network, and hadn't heard of the incubator before.

The Arte incubator is a meeting place for a dozen creative people and emerging artists in the audiovisual sector in the broadest sense. There are people with backgrounds in film, animation and documentary, as well as more hybrid profiles like myself, with skills in image and interactive design.

The aim of this incubator is to bring together different profiles without setting creative limits on project imagination.

We work as a group on workshops that we discover on the spot, and it's not a question of carrying out a personal project that's already been thought out. These five weeks, spread over several months, are dedicated to the exploration of new stories and audiovisual formats through practice and meetings.

The future looks bright for this incubator, as it offers valuable encounters, both artistically and professionally. Who knows, maybe a project will emerge from this experience, or even later, thanks to these new encounters.

How has ECNI training helped you in your career as a digital designer?

I was able to discover all the sectors to which interactive design applies , such as: web professions (UI/UX and WebGL), video games and gamification, installations, mixed reality...

Interactive creation is a field that requires solid skills in graphics and motion design, and in 3D depending on your profile. It was this versatilitythat appealed to me.

Today, I wear many different hats and have many different skills, which I call digital designer.

Why did you choose digital and interactive creation?

Interactive design transforms the user into the co-author of the experience. Far from being a spectator at a distance, a user actually seizes the experience or interactive work proposed to him. Even when the viewer is not directly involved, his or her experience can be interactive, thanks to immersion in the environment, body position, eye contact... This is what we can experience in mapping projects or in 360° VR videos, for example.

I grew up with the Internet and video games, and I'm passionate about the moving image, so it was natural for me to move in the direction of digital creation, andexplore the cultural forms of today and tomorrow.

It's a fast-evolving field, which allows us to experiment with innovative immersive forms with as yet undefined limits.

What do you like best about your job?

What fascinates me is the ability to spark sensitive imaginations in others through images, immersion and interaction.

The diversity of the practice also appeals to me; projects can be very varied, depending on the field of application and the client. All the more so if you develop experimental and artistic forms at the same time.

Do you get to work with alumni?

I've already worked with a motion designer from GOBELINS on an assignment.

On a day-to-day basis, this network of alumni allows me toshare professional experiences, desires, career choices andadministrative matters.

I sometimes seek advice from friends with a similar profile, who are one or two years ahead of me in the world of independence.

What advice would you give to a recent graduate?

My advice would be to find what really moves you, and go in that direction.

Sometimes you have to take the time to experiment with different forms in digital creation, to find what speaks to you the most.

Digital creation is a world with porous borders, so don 't hesitate to experiment in neighboring fields.

Love it
