Honey of War by Léa Pietrzyk and Vajra Pancharia (Master of Arts Character Animation & Animated Filmmaking - classes of 2021) has been selected for the Focus script program of the Cannes Film Festival.
In collaboration with 6 major film and visual arts schools (ECAM, FAMU, HEAD Genève, La Fémis, Le Fresnoy and Gobelins) the Focus script program spot and highlight innovative talents and support them in the firsts steps of their next short film.
The students or recent graduated selected by the program benefit from targeted feedbaks on their script and meetings with potential partners (producers, distributors, industry experts on specific themes for each project).
The selected projects will be presented on Tuesday, May 24 from 10 am at the Palais des festivals in Cannes.
The two directors have already worked together on Blue Curry, their graduation film. This new project will be about the war in Yemen. They are currently looking for funding and a co-producer.
In war torn Yemen, Saïd, a nomadic bee keeper, travels with his hives across the country each year to make honey from jujube flowers, making the finest honey in the Middle East. One day, he crosses paths with Rayya, a lost kid. As they travel together, Saïd transmits his knowledge of apiculture to make Rayya discover the concept of democracy.
