Cannes 2025: "Dieu est timide" by Jocelyn Charles selected for the Semaine de la Critique
A 2019 graduate of the Master in Character Animation and Animated Filmmaking , Jocelyn Charles began his career directing music videos for The Weeknd and L'Impératrice. In 2020, he joined the Remembers studio, co-founded by Ugo Bienvenu (class of 2010) and Félix de Givry.
"Dieu est timide", his first short film, will be presented at the Semaine de la Critique during the Cannes Festival 2025. With this film, he consolidates his artistic universe and his exploration of horror and monstrosity.
"I have an animation style that is obviously influenced by Japanese culture [...] I was rocked by these authors during my childhood, from Akira Toriyama's Dr Slump for the big heads and comic drawing, to Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke for the horror and omnipresence of nature. Both are pillars of my visual identity.
