Optimize your watch

Antoine Ughetto

"Stay curious! The industry has gone through 500 different evolutions. There was the end of Flash, the beginning of dynamic HTML sites, the GL web, augmented reality, virtual reality, NFT and blockchain and now AI. It's a profession and a sector that demands constant evolution, you have to be in tune with what's being done, follow the trends."

"UX Design is a constantly evolving sector, so you always have to be on the lookout. Learning is not limited to training, you have to find the subject that interests you and continue to study it in depth. I'm passionate about design fiction and I study the subject a lot, taking part in workshops and conferences, reading publications... And don't hesitate to keep socializing with senior product designers for advice."

"The training is still very useful to me in terms of technology watch and innovation management. The school always pushed us to seek out innovative concepts, to look at the latest sites, the latest technologies. It's a habit I've kept."

Creating opportunities

"There's no magic advice, but the two most important things are to be autonomous and to know how to create opportunities for yourself. Don't hesitate to dig deeper, to keep an eye on the subjects you're passionate about, so you don't get stuck on what you've got.

You have to know how to make your own luck when it comes to freelance assignments, by taking part in trade fairs and creative exhibitions, sharing your work on networks... There's an element of chance, but it's one you can sometimes shake up. In fact, that's the whole story behind Cosmic Shelter: our various encounters have enabled the creation of this extraordinary human adventure."

Arnaud Tanielian

"The beginning of a career is the perfect time to follow opportunities as they arise. You can't ask yourself too many questions. At the beginning, especially at GOBELINS, you don't count your hours; you're passionate. You have to translate that passion into action and go for it.

Coming from a small commune in the south of France, Paris was the end of the world for me, the culmination of my studies and the start of my career. I had never flown before GOBELINS, and ended up living in Canada, Australia and, for almost 10 years now, New York... If I could do it, you can do it, really. You just have to try."

"Good first professional experiences are the ones that allow you to meet the right people, who will pull you up and teach you lots of things. This is what will enable you to progress in your career.

"It's not always easy, but you have to know how to surround yourself with people and not work alone. The network you build up at school is what's going to make the difference later on. You have to know how to rely on the people you meet during your training, help each other out and work together."

"You shouldn't hesitate to contact people whose work you admire to try and get an internship or offer them a collaboration. We also took part in or attended a lot of conferences and workshops, which enabled us to meet professionals from our field but also from complementary backgrounds such as museum curators, for example."
