Screening of "SÁMIS", a film by Roman Jehanno and Cyril Hucleux

Roman Jehanno,who graduated from the Photographe Prise de vue course in 2008,will be presenting "SÁMIS", his 52-minute documentary on the life and culture of the Sámi people,produced in collaboration with Cyril Hucleux.
The screening will take place on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. It will be followed by a discussion with the director. The event will be accompanied by a free exhibition.
Roman Jehanno
Specializing inlandscape and portrait photography, Roman Jehanno wasawarded the Hasselblad Master Prize in 2014 for his "Savoir-faire" series, subsequently published in various magazines (National Geographic, Fubiz, Réponse Photo...). Since 2014, he has been traveling the world, building his work around grandiose landscapes in which humans play the leading role. These personal works are complemented by commissions for major companies (Disneyland, Pernod-Ricard, Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin, IKEA, Carte Noire...).
The film
Settled innorthern Sweden, Finland and Lapland, the Sámis live in total symbiosis with their environment .
The film is an insight into their lives and their struggle to reinvent their identity while preserving their heritage.
They share their stories, their experiences and their concerns about the place of their ancestral culture in modern society .
The documentary is an opportunity to discover traditional Sámi art and cuisine , as well as joik, an emotionally-charged ancestral spiritual song.
The exhibition
During his trip, Roman also took portraits and landscape photos.
His pictures will be on display in the ground floor gallery of the Saint-Marcel campus from Thursday April 18 to Thursday May 16.
